So if you're driving, make it up in a yard bag inside of a bucket so it doesn't spill! Buy a big bottle of Vanilla extract at Sam's, Costco, BJ's, and bring that with you. Bring an old sock or washcloth and pour the Vanilla on that. Oh and bring a ziplock with you so you can pick it up and carry it with you to different spots.

Use strawberry jello in your mash mix too.

Hopefully, if you show up with the mash already fermenting well, you might get lucky enough to get them in quickly. The vanilla on an old sock is a good trick too to add to the scent.

Good luck, and tell us how you do!

AlbertAlbert A Raschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11431765456546701021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-3172387132993731812011-05-28T16:02:03.143-04:002011-05-28T16:02:03.143-04:00This is great information. I got the corn, but had no idea how to prepare it. My hunt is only three days. I'm a little bummed that it may take up to two weeks to attact the hogs. I've only got three days. The damage it does is so sad and so needless.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-55658433163672598462008-02-08T16:13:00.000-05:002008-02-08T16:13:00.000-05:00Jake,It is fairly obvious that the destruction of ...Jake,

It is fairly obvious that the destruction of mature oak stands, coupled with mountain top removal by the coal industry has really walloped the snot out the hog population out there in West Virginia.

I am absolutely floored by the information I gathered looking at hogs and WV so I could answer you with more specificity. Google up hogs and West Virginia and look for the page from WV DNR and you'll see.

I encourage you to join in the fight against MTR if you haven't done so already.

Everyone else be on the lookout for another installment on Mountain Top Removal coming soon.

Big Coal, look out. I'm pissed now.

Regards,
Albert A RaschAlbert A Raschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11431765456546701021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-79726137810763259892008-02-08T11:16:00.000-05:002008-02-08T11:16:00.000-05:00Great information. I guess I will have to head down south to give it a try whenever I get a chance. If you first take into consideration the possible routes to and from the waterhole, the available spots that you can set-up at, and a good place to shoot from, it will work. The posthole method might be best for you if you are in an open area. Ghillie suits would be good too.

I am not really familiar with California, I always thought that nuts went there to ripen, and nothing I've seen leads me to believe otherwise. But if you are hunting areas with cattle on it, then you can always buddy up with someone. If you walk close enough that the fellow behind can touch your back and you both walk stooped over a bit, and move with an ambling gait, the hogs will think you are a steer. I know it sounds funny but I have used that when caught in the open.

Give it some thought and let me know what you think.

Regards,
Albert A RaschAlbert A Raschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11431765456546701021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-66876614939224515212008-02-06T23:17:00.000-05:002008-02-06T23:17:00.000-05:00Wow. Here everything is so wide open we spend ages with binoculars glassing hillsides a mile or two away until we see them (they are almost always black around here). Then the trick is to get close enough for a 250-300 yard shot. Sometimes you get within 100 paces of a boar, but not often.

Wonder if the corn trick would work near a water hole out here?Hunter Angler Gardener Cookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01996285578001308125noreply@blogger.com
