I recently read McCullough's book "1776", and one thing General Washington knew for sure, and never wavered, was that the Almighty intended this nation's birth. We endured years of war against the most powerful nation on earth. When help came from the French, a self-seeking empire if ever there was one, we gained the critical victory.

Again, when the greed of men -- greed so strong that they were willing to buy and sell each other like chattel -- tore this country apart in a Civil War, God saw fit to restore us after His chastening. He restored us because we had a role to play in the world. We saved Europe from itself not once, but twice in the next century. We held the most evil empire in history at bay for fifty years after that.

We still have a role, Albert. God is not done with us yet. (Who else will stand up to Islamofascism?) He may need to discipline us -- the Father disciplines those He loves -- but He's not finished with us. We can still be the instrument of His will, and I believe that is exactly what we will be.

Keep hoping. Keep praying. Keep believing!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-33933428061776948622008-07-17T08:42:00.000-04:002008-07-17T08:42:00.000-04:00I'm glad you're back too!I've been having the poli...I'm glad you're back too!

I've been having the political argument with people this year too - I wonder what our government would look like if every qualified voter voted? What kinds of changes could happen then?

I look forward to reading both your political opinions and about your outdoor adventures!Blessedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00029860506890356566noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-11433396442944889022008-07-15T13:18:00.000-04:002008-07-15T13:18:00.000-04:00Thanks Philip and SBW,Yeah... I'll be back with more of the new stuff pretty soon, but I guess I'll have to start a new blog for the political stuff; I don't want to mix TROC with that. One of these days I'll need to get down there and chase some of those Florida porkers with you... maybe we can solve some of those problems and answer some of the questions while we're at it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-28765220985393069892008-07-11T06:15:00.000-04:002008-07-11T06:15:00.000-04:00Mr RaschI'm really glad to see you posting again, ...Mr Rasch
I'm really glad to see you posting again, The Rasch Outdoor Chronicles have been sorely missed. The length of your hiatus was starting to concern me, if ROC had become a ghost blog it would have made the outdoor blogosphere a poorer place. I look froward to reading more of your writing and hope you keep up the political commentary alongside the fun and informative stuff, the personal is the political, and your voice is clear and strident.
Your Fan
SBWThe Suburban Bushwackerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09372690405902840131noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-64302730099858804422008-07-10T16:11:00.000-04:002008-07-10T16:11:00.000-04:00Guys,Thanks for the encouraging words. There is so much to cover that it makes me wonder if it is even possible to find a place to carve a niche, so to speak. I don't want to be pigeon-holed either.

SimplyOutdoors,

I don't know... There is little difference between the two presumptive candidates, the interests that hold sway in Congress are still there, and the people really are uninformed. I think we will see much of the same with little real progress made. I would like to remind you that there has been no meaningful public policy initiatives from inside the Beltway in forty years! I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

Regards,
Albert A Rasch

PS: I'm not going to do politicize here at The Rasch Outdoor Chronicles, my future posts will be on the outdoors and the fun stuff I do there... or that happens to me... or that it does to me...

AlbertAlbert A Raschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11431765456546701021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-45784565763380754232008-07-10T14:48:00.000-04:002008-07-10T14:48:00.000-04:00While I agree with everything that is said here, I...While I agree with everything that is said here, I tend to disagree with one very important thing.

I think come this election we are going to see more Americans than ever turn out to vote, and I think that most Americans are fed up. They are fed up with those in power, and they are going to make their voices heard.

I do think America is going through a definite rough patch, but as always, I see us recovering like we have before.

I think Americans are starting to wake up and we are going to see some big changes in the near future.

My two cents.SimplyOutdoorshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14074585345161430068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-9448259511834783502008-07-09T21:00:00.000-04:002008-07-09T21:00:00.000-04:00You're back - yayyyyyyyyyy! Our government is as go...You're back - yayyyyyyyyyy!

Our government is as good as we choose to make it. Most people say, "Things are good enough," so they ignore it - don't even bother to vote. Or they say, "It's hopeless - why bother voting?" So we get the government created by people who feel obligated to vote, and people who have very special interests, all manipulated by well-oiled machines designed to achieve the desired political outcome. The less we care, the more those machines run things. The question is, when will people feel agrieved enough to do something about it?

It's a good question.

Welcome back!Holly Heyserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03134909592916671876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1999508328036467805.post-37660016904700848782008-07-09T17:30:00.000-04:002008-07-09T17:30:00.000-04:00That "your" should be "you're". I save that for when I see them in person. :-)

It sounds like you've been doing a lot of research and have made a commitment to influence change. I think that's a good thing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
