It's About Time We Pushed Back!

PayPal squelches Soldiers Angels Fund Drive

Many of you a probably aware of this, but PayPal is vehemently anti-gun. They allow anybody else do their business through PayPal, but not any identifiably gun oriented transactions.

While putting together a fundraiser, actually mid way through it, PayPal suspended the fundraiser drive that Soldiers Angels was running.

Read all about it at the Smallest Minority.

The Smallest Minority puts it well:
"I've never asked this before, but I would appreciate it if every gun- and mil-blogger on the web and every gun board picked this up and spread it far and wide. I'm tired of gun-bigots. PayPal needs to hear from US - the law-abiding gun owners of this country - that we're no longer willing to just roll over when we're abused by the companies we "trust" just because we believe in and practice the rights guaranteed to us under the Second Amendment."

Contact PayPal. Their Customer Service phone number is (402) 935-2050.

Let's raise a stink over it! It will take you less than three minutes to call them, tell them that you would like to speak to a supervisor, ask the supervisor who you should speak to, tell him, her, them, that you are sick and tired of being discriminated against.

Please, let's see if this is a battle we can take to them and win.

  1. I quit using PayPal many years ago because of their anti-gun B.S.

I will NEVER use PayPal. If a vendor does not offer another method of payment, I do not buy from that vendor.

  2. Me too James,
I have despised them for quite awhile now and refuse to give them any of my business.

  3. Fellows,

I can't disagree with your sentiments. But I think there might be an opportunity here for us to change the perception. Remember, PayPal may be the only method of money transfer available to a small business owner that wants to have a web presence, but can't qualify for Mastercard or Visa.

I'm thinking that we may have a shot to twist a little arm here and make some noise, possible regaining some control in the meantime.

    Throwing it out for discussion!

  4. As long as they're the only game in town, yelling at them won't do anything. They can safely ignore us as long as they know they're still going to be getting our money. That's the danger of monopolies.

The only way we can really get the message home is by canceling our accounts and simply not using them. I'll be canceling mine today.

If a vendor can't take credit cards, send them a check or money order.

In the meantime, we need to figure out what's going on with gearpay.com and see if they can ge encouraged to get their service back online.

  5. Fellows,

Good discussion. Gear Pay? I'll have to look that up. To bad a national organization can't start one up. At least it might limit the temptation to milk it like a cash cow! Or will it?

    Cheers,
    Mike S.

  6. Paypal is owned by eBay. Their PR department's phone number is (408) 376-7458. Please be polite, and suggest that they probably don't know what a PR nightmare is brewing, but that they should probably check it out.

Please be polite, and assume incompetence, not malice (at least for now).

  7. We've managed to bypass PayPal! Another sponsor of the Rendezvous, LuckyGunner.com, an ammo site, is doing the on-line ticket sales for us with all proceeds (minus the 3% credit card fee) going to Soldiers' Angels. Soldiers' Angels is still taking phone orders for those who don't want to purchase on-line. Details here.

    And thanks again for linking!

  8. Hi Folks,

Just an update as to how the online portion of the raffle is going over at Lucky Gunner Ammo: http://www.luckygunner.com/project-valour-raffle-fundraiser-2009

The raffle has raised over $1,100 for Soldiers' Angels in the past 2 weeks since it got put back online...sans PayPal!

    Thanks for your continued support,

    Brian
