Why I Carry a Gun

© 2009 Albert A Rasch

I bumped into this on Brigid's blog "Home on the Range."

First of all, the post itself "Five Rounds of Self Defense", is magnificent. Miss Brigid should have it made into a poster or something to that effect. If not, everyone should print it out and give it to loved ones.

I found this in the comments section and I thought it pretty clever too.

I Don't Carry a Gun to Kill People

I don’t carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don’t carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m angry. I carry a gun so that I don’t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don’t carry a gun because my sex organs are too small. I carry a gun because I want to continue to use those sex organs for the purpose for which they were intended for a good long time to come.

I don’t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don’t carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life, and the people who make it meaningful to me.

We must all continue to fight for the right to carry a gun as many will try to take that right away from us in the very near future. Wild Ed

And we must all work together to defeat them.

Good post. I just wish many of the anti-gun owners would step outside of their little glass boxes and understand the real reasons why carrying a gun is important - like some of those reasons listed above.

I had to mention this incident that occurred at my work today . . .

My personal assistant said that the picture hanging in my cubical of me holding a shotgun was disturbing to her. The fact that her "boss" owned a gun caused her undue stress.

I immediately called Human Resources and FORTUNATELY they told me I was perfectly in my right to keep it up! To tell you the truth I was surprised they had a spine about the whole issue. Sad that this is where things have digressed.

Rabid,

Follow that up with an email and/or letter to HR.

You won't believe were something like that can go. Hostile work environment, etc, etc, etc...

Don't wait another minute. Follow it up!!!!!

Trust me when I say I have HR on speed dial. What disturbs me most is the fact I felt I HAD to call. Having a discussion with my supervisor on the issue at end of the day.

Thanks Partner.

Don't mean to be a nag, but part fo my previous job revolved around HR...

I appreciate you letting me know. Thank You.

I like Home on the Range too. Brigid is a good writer.

It always amazes me that so many people can delude themselves into thinking guns are the problem. Guns aren't the problem, people are the problem. Until we can figure out a way to neutralize the bad people, I'd prefer to have the right to have a gun if I wish.

Hey Range,
Nice Hog Leg and leather work....sweet! I faintly remember a bed-time lullaby that went something like "......they can have my weapon when the pry it from my dead, cold fingers...."

Just framed my "concealed weapons permit" and hung it on my cubical wall . . . that should give her something to think about. :)

Kidding of course BUT it did cross my mind!

Actually, if I knew my co-worker/boss was armed, it would make me feel SAFER.
