Our intrepid correspondent from the British Isles, The Suburban Bushwacker, has brought us a fantastic video from I believe David Attenborough. He's out in the Kalahari Desert with the "Desert People." The Bushmen of the Kalahari are the finest trackers in the world; an art at risk of being lost. It is a must see!
Up in the northern reaches of Alaska, the Hodgeman is trying hard to to get eaten by a bear. Look at the size of that paw print! I think we ought to find out what kind of firearm he's using and see what other adventures Hodgeman is going to get into! And are those slip on loafers he's wearing? I have been teaching the art of tracking to my children since even "before" they could talk.
The very best Tracker here in the States would be "Tom Brown Jr."
He still teaches classes and has several books on the subject, so the art is still being passed on.
The Kalahari Desert People are the best in the world I am told by people whom have hunted with them!

Its actually a fort in Oman. I was actually looking for one of those Saharan type Foreign Legion type of forts, but this is what i got.

There is a "feel" involved in tracking that transcends sight and sound, inexplicable, but none the less real. The video alluded to it.
Yes A.W.M. there is,
When I was taking one of Tom Browns sanctioned classes a couple of decades ago, the instructors would have us stare at what at first appeared to be a piece of barren ground.
And then after a couple of minutes (or sometimes Hours) just like one of those computer generated images which suddenly will pop out at you from within a jumbled mass of squiggly lines, so as it would be with the animal track.
It does transcend sight and sound indeed!

Even though it was a produced video, you could definitely see the "mystical" look on the runner's face and mannerisms. When I use mystical I mean the emotional/intellectual/spiritual activity that transcends but is part of the mere physical act of tracking.

Good catch Al- those are slip on loafers! Merrell Polar Mocs- love hunting in them. No bear yet but we're getting there.
